Workshop Overview

Unconscious bias and a legacy of inequality means that many women find it hard to truly thrive at work and reach their potential. In this course we help organisations and their women think and plan how they can break older limiting beliefs and assumptions that hold women back from fully contributing in the workplace. This will be done in a thoughtful and safe way to ensure that all individuals (both men and women) can feel comfortable, supported and understood.

Many organisations still do not have equal representation in senior roles for women and we will tackle the issues behind this. Many women struggle with confidence and self-belief. It can also be difficult for women to feel comfortable with their own feelings of aggression or competition. Some find themselves trapped in an unconscious drive to ‘play nicely’. We explore how to encourage women to feel empowered and entitled to progress in their careers. Also, there is often a plateau in women’s careers as they start families and both the woman and the organisation lose out as a consequence.

Women also have to navigate significant life events (such as pregnancy, maternity leave and menopause) which may impact on their work and life. We will think about how to enable women to ask for support and to equip managers to respond appropriately and comfortably.

Finally, we cover how to support women taking maternity leave before, during and after the break. Women returning to work often feel that their identity has changed along with priorities and so they need to integrate back into work with sometimes a very different outlook. We look at how to help them do this taking in account what works best for them, others and the organisation.
