Understanding Mental and Emotional Health in the Workplace

Workshop Overview
We all have a mental health and one that can cause us much distress or joy. Stress, anxiety and depression are the biggest cause of sickness absence in our society, causing 15.8 million
days of absence in the UK in 2016 (Office for National Statistics, 2017: Sickness absence in the labour market: 2016) .

Organisations that ignore mental health are more likely to suffer sickness, absenteeism, presenteeism and cultural consequences. In addition, prevention is better than cure and by understanding how to harness our emotional and mental health we can improve relationships, collaboration, creativity, motivation and performance.

This workshops helps leaders and managers understand more about mental and emotional health. This is the precursor to being able to create mentally and emotionally healthy teams that are resilient and able to thrive at work. It also supports leaders in having effective and sensitive conversations with their people so that they can spot any difficulties and respond appropriately.

Workshop Outcomes

  • Understand mental health and the factors that can affect wellbeing and performance.
  • Understand that we all have a mental health and how to build mental resilience.
  • Recognise the signs people show when their mental health is suffering or is in crisis.
  • Understand more about what causes mental health related symptoms e.g. stress, burn out, depression, anxiety, OCD and others.
  • Know what managers and HR do to encourage positive emotional and mental health at work.
  • Know what individuals can do to take responsibility for and look after their own mental health.
  • Have the confidence to step in, reassure and support a person in distress.
  • Gain interpersonal skills such as non-judgmental listening.
  • Provide help on a first-aid basis.

Workshop Overview
We all have a mental and emotional health and yet most have little understanding of how it works and the impact it has on us at work. We are missing crucial information to help us perform to the best of our abilities and create effective relationships with others. This workshop will increase your understanding of your mental and emotional world and how you can build its muscle.

Workshop Outcomes

  • Understand the difference between the emotional and rational brain and the impact this has on us and our performance.
  • Identify our emotional triggers and how we respond.
  • Change our internal dialogue to better manage emotional states.
  • Understand the defenses we create to manage emotions.
  • Learn techniques to manage our emotional states at work.
